4 Synthetic Turf Problems and Their Solutions

Synthetic turf is made of plastic grass. It is usually built from polyester or vinyl, which is attached to the backing. Many people choose this over natural grass as it doesn’t need maintenance. Though it is synthetic, it doesn’t mean that you simply leave it as it is once installed.

The standard lifespan of faux grass is 20 years. However, it will only last that long if you take good care of it.

There are four issues that you may encounter with your lawn. Fortunately, you can solve these problems. Below are the common turf concerns and some ways on how to solve them.

Problem #1: The Grass Becomes Flat

One of the primary issues of many synthetic turf users is its tendency to look flat. This happens when heavy foot traffic passes through the flooring or when furniture has sat on the grass for days. If this occurs, you need to use a rake to make it look fluffy again.

However, using a rake may sometimes not be enough, especially if you’ve been using the synthetic grass for years. If that’s the case, you need to replace the infill. Using a wet-dry vacuum, remove the infill and the spreader then place the new one. It can be time-consuming, but you will see the result of your effort instantly.

Problem #2: The Turf Absorbs Heat

Because the blades are made of plastic, chances are, it will absorb the radiation coming from the sun. Consequently, the grass will shrink until there’s nothing left. Fortunately, you can solve this issue right away. You can turn on the sprinkler to wet the artificial lawn.

However, this is only a temporary solution. Once the surface is dry, it will absorb heat again. If you’re looking for a long-lasting solution to this problem, you need to use a window film. It does not only benefit the house but the fake turf as well. It absorbs heat, which reduces the temperature in your yard.

Problem #3: It’s not Environmentally-Friendly

Synthetic turf doesn’t produce oxygen or absorb carbon dioxide. Moreover, it is not recyclable. This is why environmentalists do not recommend this type of flooring.

Problem #4: It Promotes Dirt and Bad Odor

Your yard is the “toilet” of your pets. It is where they poop and pee. Thus, it absorbs all the feces and urine of your pets. To eliminate the odor, you need to brush it with soap and water. Not only will this remove the bad smell but the dirt as well.

Synthetic turf can be a perfect alternative to natural grass. It doesn’t need mowing, fertilizing, and irrigation. However, you still need to take care of it to make its quality last.
