Is Synthetic Turf Safe for You and Your Family’s Health?

Does your significant play golf? Do your kids have fun in parks? Do you stroll along recreational areas? These areas often use artificial turf. The question remains whether synthetic turf is safe for one’s health.

With the reports of heightened injuries and diseases, one may be bothered by artificial turf health concerns. An environmental health expert has examined many environmental concerns, and included are the different issues about artificial turf.

Studies were reviewed and performed, and it was found out that the chemicals from tires pose a potential risk. These tires are transformed into crumbs, called “rubber crumbs.” They support the blades of the artificial grass.

Synthetic turfs are composed of the following parts:

  1. Material that will back each of the blades of the synthetic grass,
  2. The blades, and
  3. The infill that supports each of the blades.

The green color is produced by a variety of pigments. Lead or titanium is used for the white portion. Other metals are used for signs.

Since tires can be harmful, it can cause health problems. Present-day tires are composed of natural and artificial rubber, and petroleum products. Other toxic materials are zinc, cadmium, and lead. Carcinogens like dibenzopyrenes are some of the chemicals also found in tires.

Because of these issues, public health associations took part. The Dutch public association called RIVM made a statement that there is no need for the concern.  No health hazard is posed as only a very low quantity of the toxic chemicals are discharged. The health risk is negligible. Thus, non-toxic artificial grass is safe.

The same public organization recommended that the standards for crumb rubber be boosted. Also, the governing rules regarding crumb rubber use meet the health protection needs of the consumers.

A ton of research and experiments from educators and state governments such as California and New York tackled almost all concerns and questions about whether synthetic turf  is safe. It was concluded that there is absolutely no scientific proof of turfs resulted in health problems. Thus, safe artificial turf can be continuously used.

A turf company developed safe artificial grass. This product can surely help put worried minds at ease when it comes to the use of artificial turf.

From reliable sources, synthetic turf is definitely safe. What better way to enjoy sports and recreational activities than through pristine green turfs?
