Factors That Trigger Your House Siding to Melt

In every corner of America, reports about melted house siding are increasing. This case makes vinyl siding manufacturers nervous, which is why they avoid this topic. Most reported cases get their sidings replaced, but then they melt the second time around. The question is, what could be the cause of this problem?

Why Is Your Vinyl Siding Melting?

Several factors can trigger your house siding to deform. First, the melting point of this material. Vinyl has a low melting point. It could only reach up to 165oF. However, the sunlight can reach up to 200o. Therefore, if the siding is exposed to extreme heat, it could cause the sides of your house to melt.

This reason leads to another factor, which is the sunlight. Light comes with heat. When the sun shines brighter, the temperature also becomes hotter. If your vinyl siding is exposed to this climate, it could distort the outer wall of your home.

The third factor is the installed vacuum in the window pane. This part turns your glass into a concave mirror, creating a magnifying glass effect. This results in directing and focusing the light onto your house siding, which leads to melting.

Nonetheless, the primary contributing factor that triggers this damage is your Low-E windows. Low-emissive windows (or Low-E windows) help homeowners reduce their energy consumption. They stabilize the temperature in your home by pushing the UV light away from your house. However, it affects the vinyl siding paint.

Because the UV rays cannot enter the house, the windows push them onto your siding. As a result, the outer wall of your house melts.

Is There a Way to Prevent Your Siding From Melting?

While no test proves their efficiency, the following options can reduce the effects of the mentioned factors:

  • Install an Awning

An awning can be a roof or a replacement window. The roof blocks the sunlight from hitting the windows; hence, preventing the insulated vinyl siding to distort. However, it dims the house interior, even if the sun is up.

Meanwhile, awning windows allow the light to come into your home, and they can absorb heat. However, these options could cause a lot of money as you need to pay for the installation service, aside from buying the product.
