How to Deal With Melting Backyard Furniture Due to Window Glare

When rays from the sun shine through the windows and are reflected, it is not uncommon to see some melting backyard furniture. You will notice that these affected windows are typically facing west or east. This location causes the interior of the house and the yard to be exposed to the damaging effects of the sunlight during the hottest time of the day.

If you constantly worry about glare damaging and melting backyard furniture, know that there are many possible solutions to fix this problem.

Melting backyard furniture is most likely caused by the powerful reflection from low emissivity windows. Homeowners use these energy-efficient windows because the glare from these windows increases the temperature in the room. In addition, watching TV and reading inside the house even when it is bright outside is not a problem with low-e windows.

Little do these people know that as they are using low-e windows, the sunlight reflection has a negative effect on their backyard furniture. They should know how to reduce glare on windows without affecting the exteriors.

Landscape

When dealing with melting backyard furniture caused by window reflection, you can try to change your landscape. This is no doubt easier than changing the location of your windows.

Trees are efficient in blocking the glare both from the sun and the window reflection. Plant or place a tree on the affected area of your yard. This is usually where the midday sun hits the most.

Interior Color

Powerful glare comes from the reflection of the sun. If you have a dark interior and the landscape is bright, it will make the window brighter than usual. One way to counter balance it is to give your walls lighter colors. The effect of the window glare is reduced because the color of your interior and your windows have the same brightness.

Exterior Shutters and Awnings

There is more glare in the afternoon and one of the ways on how to prevent reflection window is to install awnings or shutters. A roof overhang can block sunlight from hitting your windows permanently, while a shutter can be closed and opened as you like.

Window Film

If you want to prevent your backyard furniture from melting due to window glare, you can also use a window film. The right type of film for windows can block sun glare that directly hits the furniture. The good thing about these films is that they still allow natural sunlight to penetrate the interiors.
