Understanding the Manufacturing Process of Artificial Grass

The technology of artificial grass really is a breakthrough. Because it is very popular, many information and articles can be found with regard to the product. It is mostly about explaining the benefits and advantages. Some sites would also explain about product information, the pricing, and etc. Most homes have been using synthetic grass, but do you know how it is manufactured?

For curious and dedicated folks, here are the simple steps of manufacturing artificial grass.

  1. Ingredients are Gathered

The first step is always gathering the needed ingredients. Chemicals are needed as well as dyes too, and much more. These chemicals are combined and the concoction would be shaped into that green, taffy-liquid synthetic turf.

  1. The Process of Making it

The concocted product will be put inside an extruder so as to form a dry strand of material. The material will be layered next and put on a machine that vibrates for it to become a roomy rope.

  1. Yarn made with grass

The rope will then be woven into the yarn after it has been pulled, straightened and twisted. It will be set using heat. This would result into yarn pools that will be used in the process of weaving.

  1. Tufting process

Machines used for tufting are able to make sheets of fake or artificial turf. The yarn made from the previous step will be set into these machines using multiple needles, then woven to form a carpet full of artificial lawn.

  1. Assembling the sheets

After being woven, the sheets on both sides will be coated with protective latex. Next, both sides will be sealed together.

  1. Finishing touch

Lastly, by using heat lamps, the finished product will be put under a row to cleanse the fresh latex. Once it is done, it will be put through another machine for clipping for final adjustments. And of course it will be packed and ready to be sold.

Here is the chemical composition of artificial grass:

  • Polyethylene

It is the most preferred on the market today because of its characteristics. It is softer and closer to that of natural grass.

  • Polypropylene

This is a hard grass fiber. It is best for tennis courts, runways, or for aesthetic use. The difference is just a little if compared to polyethylene.

These are the simple steps on how artificial grass is made. Understanding how it is made may be an advantage because it lets you know your product more. Knowledge is power as they say it.
